Dear Family,
For some time now, I've been hoping we could have a family reunion. A few of us cousins got together one evening at Lyn and George's house, and that was fun. But I'd like to see ALL the family, or as many as possible, together in one place at one time. Here are some thoughts about it. I welcome your input, comments and/or additional suggestions.
Who
By family I mean the descendants of our matriarch, Elizabeth Madonna Evans Riley. That would include all biological and adopted children of every generation and their spouses--anyone we consider part of the family. Wouldn't that gathering be a time to remember?
Where
Since most of the first generation cousins live in Florida, it seems that would be the logical place for a reunion. How about a hotel or conference center with inexpensive rooms and a meeting place? I checked group rates for rooms in the Orlando area. They run from $50 per night per room and up. Options in the Venice/Sarasota area might be cheaper. Or maybe a family campground that has cabins or motel type lodging? I'm looking for ideas and welcome your suggestions.
When
It would have to be when school is out, so the kids could come. My suggestion is the end of June, beginning of July. Or it could be at Thanksgiving or Christmas time. Holding the reunion over a long weekend (Friday-Sunday) would allow families the option of spending additional time visiting with each other or vacationing during the week before or after the reunion.
How
If we get this ball rolling, I will welcome anyone who would like to help in anyway. First of all, we need to know if enough people are interested in order to move forward with it, and how many might actually attend.
Please post your thoughts and ideas here. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
Affectionately,
Kristin (aka Kandy Nelson) Elkinton
